While all of that sounds like it’s a big fat easy button, the opposite is true. ![]() Kiteboarding has so many large and small equipment items that it is hard not to leave something behind. It's the ultimate kiteboarders checklist. Without them, we can easily miss the session of our dreams - so, print this kite equipment checklist. Sometimes, our brain forgets a few essential accessories. Ultimately, it’s all about being comfortable with the kite and learning how to control it.Kiteboarding involves a lot of gear. Pro tip: If you have a friend with kitesurfing gear or there’s a shop near your home, you can get a head start by doing some training sessions on dry land before your trip. So don’t be surprised if you’re a bit sore from exertion, even on lesson days that don’t involve water. But there’s really no exact training that matches the quirky mix of muscle groups involved in kiting. If you’re looking to train ahead of time, hanging ab crunches will definitely help, as will yoga and swimming. Kitesurfing involves the whole body, but core strength is fundamental. Impact vests cost around $150, so it’s not a crazy purchase if you plan to do more kitesurfing or other surface sports. It’s a red flag if they don’t provide them as part of a lesson. Ask the shop about impact vests beforehand. ![]() Most shops will offer impact vests for beginners, which provide buoyancy and protection from falls and knocks by equipment without impeding movement. ![]() A swimsuit and a rash guard, either long or short sleeve, will suffice, and the water in Puerto Rico is warm. Most shops will send someone out on a boat with you, which is ideal because it’s easy to end up pretty far away from your starting point. Finally, on day two or three, depending on the length of your lessons and skills with the kite, you’ll graduate to the board. The next step is “body dragging.” You’ll move out into the water with the kite, let your feet float behind you, and feel the kite pulling you through the water. Once you get comfortable with this, you’ll move on to a bigger kite, one that you’re likely to use once you get out on the water. Chances are you’ll start with a smaller kite around four meters, or 13 feet, in diameter. Once you’re more comfortable with the kite, you’ll probably get some drilling in, moving and stopping the kite at 10 o’clock, 11 o’clock, and - the key - 12 o’clock (directly above your head). You will certainly crash the kite on the beach a few times. The instructor will guide you through some basic maneuvers so you can get a feel for the wind and how the kite responds to the control bar. You’ll also practice “rigging up” - connecting the lines to the kite - and then your instructor will likely take the kite, get it up in the air, and pass it over to you. A good instructor will take time to walk you through the equipment before you ever see a kite - in particular, the Control Bar and Chicken Loop - and guide you through kite terminology. Unless you’re in the top one percent of naturally gifted kiters or already have some experience, on day one you should expect to practice for two to three hours and shouldn’t expect to be on the board. They’ll know best and can check the conditions, suggest the right days, and communicate with you if things change. It’s worth connecting with the shop you plan to use beforehand to let them know you’re coming for one or more lessons. Even if the wind is calm, ask if you can test a smaller kite on the beach, because any time with the kite is beneficial. Depending on conditions, you may be able to take lessons every day, or you may have to wait several days until it’s right. It’s ideal to have a three-to-five-day spread when you can take lessons. But as a beginner, you don’t want too much wind, known as “nuking” in the sport’s parlance. The shop offers lessons and gear for everything from kitesurfing to e-foiling, as well as surf camps for kids every Saturday and Sunday. We recommend lessons from the incredibly friendly team at Goodwinds, located on beautiful Dorado Beach, a 45-minute drive from San Juan. Even if you’re confident with other water sports, it’s worth getting some instruction. Kitesurfing requires a fair amount of gear, all of which will be new to most people. If you’ve never done any kiting before, take a lesson from a professional. The website makes it easy to get started, too, by allowing you to filter courses according to your unique business goals. Blueprint offers courses in the following topics: One major perk is that Facebook owns Instagram, so you're actually getting in-depth training on how to advertise with two social media giants via one certifictaion. Just like a housing blueprint walks you through the steps of building a house, Facebook Blueprint takes you step-by-step through the process of creating impactful social campaigns for your brand. To earn your Blueprint Certificate, you need to complete several e-courses and pass three tests: the Core Competencies, Certified Buying and Certified Planning exams. The Facebook exam does this too but nowhere near the scale of AdWords.Blueprint is Facebook’s set of online courses and exams that educate and test marketers on the ins and outs of advertising with the social media giant. Something that annoys me to no end is how the AdWords exam would give you a scenario question and all 4 answers would be right, but you had to find the answer that was MORE right. It has been a while since I took the AdWords exam but both ask similar questions (technical and theoretical). I was previously cranking out cookie cutter WordPress sites and wanted to get into something more exciting.įorgive me for the stupid question but am i right in assuming the content is very similar to google: really understanding and applying their paid ads system for your clients? ![]() This was a good first step for me and it allowed me to create more " freedom of maneuver" at my job. I am not a full time Social Media marketer but I would like to establish myself as a subject matter expert on it one day. Getting certified was a way for me to communicate with management that I know what I am talking about. My question is what benefit does the facebook cert offer if someone isnt a fulltime Social Media Marketer? For instance, since I only intended on taking the Buying Professional certification, I ignored the entire Planning Professional eLearning modules, big mistake. I highly recommend you take all the modules because there will be some overlap between them. Some people I have talked to said it took them a week.įor studying I only used their eLearning modules here You need a minimum score of 700 on both tests to become certified, and it took me 48 hours to receive my digital badge. Facebook is actively avoiding this pitfall by making their tests as rigorous and truthful as possible. I am cynical to the point if someone tells me they are Google AdWords certified I immediately think they just looked up the answers to the test. It was honestly a little uncomfortable but overall I like Facebook's process because they want their certifications to have value. DO NOT USE YOUR IMAC OR A DESKTOP WITH A BUILT IN WEBCAM, YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO SCAN YOUR ENTIRE TESTING ENVIRONMENT AND PICKING UP UP AN IMAC TO SHOW THE PROCTOR YOUR ROOM IS A BAD IDEA (use your laptop or a USB webcam). You cannot see the proctor, you'll only hear him. ![]() They will check everything from your desk, to the ceilings, and even ask you to roll up your sleeves. When you load up the test your webcam will connect to a proctor who will ask you to take your webcam and do a room scan. Take the test when you are home alone, anyone who walks in your room can lead to disqualification. That means the only thing on your desk should be a laptop, a glass of water is forbidden. They are very serious about taking the exam on a sanitized desktop. When you register for the exam Facebook will send you a list of instructions on how to prep your test environment- READ IT. When you take the exam you'll have to download a program that takes over your computer and your webcam must be on at all times so the online proctors can see you. Whereas the Google AdWords exam is a complete joke and easy to cheat on, Facebook has taken a different route and is making the test as "cheat-proof" as possible. ![]() I chose the online route because it was easier for me. Facebook allows you to take the exam online or in pre-approved testing center. I took both exams in one sitting and it took me about 3 hours to complete. Each exam costs $150, so you'll be expected to shell out $300 to become fully certified (prices are adjusted on less developed countries I believe). To become certified you need to pass 2 exams, a basic "core competencies" exam and then 1 of 2 options a "Buying Professional" or "Planning Professional" track. It is a new exam and there is not a lot of "inside" information about it. I'm not posting this to brag, but I'm leaving it open for discussion or PMs for anyone interested in taking it. Last month I passed both the core competencies exam and the Buying Professional exam to earn my certification. |
